羲城是北魏郦道元《水经注》中记载的太昊伏羲时代的遗址,淮阳当地有些学者根据古代文献的相关记载,推测羲城当是太昊伏羲之都。我们根据传说中太昊伏羲事迹及称谓的考辩与河南淮阳地区上古聚落遗址的发现认为,《水经注》记载的羲城是否为太昊伏羲之都,不仅要有传世文献的依据,还需要考古发现的证明。淮阳地区发现的属于大汶口文化的平粮台遗址与属于龙山文化的朱丘寺遗址,与能够印证伏羲时代的大地湾遗址至少有上千年的差距,尽管朱丘寺遗址与《水经注》记载的羲城方位与距离相吻合,也不足以证明羲城即为太昊伏羲之都。而根据传世文献,太昊伏羲之都在淮阳区域范围内,大致可信。

Xicheng is the settlement site in the Tai Hao and Fu Xi era,which is recorded in Shuijingzhu by Li Dao Yuan in the Northern Wei dynasty.Some scholars in Huaiyang speculated that Xicheng was the capital of Tai Hao and Fu Xi according to the related records of ancient literature. However,based on the stories of Tai Hao and Fu Xi in the legend,the research of titles,and the discovery of the ancient settlement site in Huaiyang,Henan,we believe that the current archaeological discoveries are not sufficient to prove that Xicheng recorded in Shuijingzhu is the capital of Tai Hao and Fu Xi. The ruins of Ping Liang Tai( part of the Da Wen Kou culture) and the ruins of Zhu Qiu temple( part of the Long Shan culture) in Huaiyang have at least a thousand years' gap with the ruins of the Da Di Bay site which can be confirmed in the Fu Xi era.Although the site of Zhu Qiu temple is consistent with the location and distance of Xicheng,recorded in Shuijingzhu,it is not sufficient to prove that Xicheng is the capital of Tai Hao and Fu Xi.Nevertheless,it is believable that the capital of Tai Hao and Fu Xi,according to the literature handed on from ancient times,is within the region of Huaiyang.
